Partner organization: ASCOVIME


  • Visits more than fifteen remote, underserved villages each year, providing medical, surgical and dental care to over 10,000 patients, many who have never seen a doctor, all free of charge.
  • Led by Cameroonian surgeon, Dr. George Bwelle, and his permanent team of local volunteer pharmacists, electricians, and surgical assistants, as well as volunteer foreign doctors and medical students.
  • Each mobile health campaign takes place over the course of three days and includes:
  • Medical consultation and treatment: In a typical weekend clinic, the volunteer physicians consult over 400 patients and provide free medicine through the mobile pharmacy.  Commonly encountered complaints are:

• Pediatrics: Infantile diarrhea, malaria, helminthic infection, pneumonia, malnutrition, failure to thrive
• Ob/Gyn: Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Uterine tumors, retained products of conception, ovarian cysts
• General Medical Practice: Rheumatoid Arthritis, filariasis, GERD, malaria, HIV/AIDS, burns,uriary tract infections

  •  Surgical Procedures: Through the course of medical consultation, patients in need of surgical intervention are identified. Procedures performed at the mobile surgical clinic include:

• Repair of hernias
• Hysterectomies
• Removal of lipomas and fibromas
• Repair of lacerations and treatment of acute trauma

  • Public Health Initiatives: In most rural regions of Cameroon, intestinal parasites are a large concern in both child and adult populations. They can lead to anemia, poor nutrient absorption and stomach upset.

•Health workers explain the origin of the infectious agents and provide treatment to all who consent
